LKK Promotes

Lévy Kaufmann-Kohler is pleased to announce Silja Schaffstein’s promotion to Counsel, with effect from 1st January 2020.

 

Silja joined LKK as an associate in 2014, and was promoted to senior associate in 2017. She specializes in commercial and investment arbitration, acting as arbitrator, counsel or co-counsel, and secretary of the tribunal in international and domestic ad hoc and institutional arbitration proceedings. Recognized as a future leader in international arbitration (Who’s Who Legal 2020 – Non Partners), Silja has participated in more than 40 arbitral proceedings, under all major arbitration rules, including ICC, LCIA, Swiss Rules, DIS, ICSID, UNCITRAL and WIPO, and a variety of national arbitration acts and substantive laws, of both the common law and civil law traditions. She also advises and represents clients with respect to arbitrations or arbitration-related court proceedings in Switzerland, in particular in connection with actions to set aside Swiss arbitral awards and to recognize or enforce foreign awards, including the freezing of assets located in Switzerland.

 

Silja is admitted to the Geneva and New York Bars and holds a Ph.D. from Queen Mary, University of London and the University of Geneva, and an LL.M. from Columbia University. She has published extensively on international arbitration topics, including a well-known book titled The Doctrine of Res Judicata Before International Commercial Arbitral Tribunals (Oxford University Press, 2016).
