LKK Speaking Engagement

Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler was invited to speak, on 12 January 2017, at the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA)’s Geneva Chapter conference presenting the preliminary draft bill on the revision of Chapter 12 of the Swiss Private International Law Act (PILA), the statute governing international arbitration in Switzerland.

The conference was held one day after the Swiss Federal Department of Justice (SFDJ) released the preliminary draft bill, together with an explanatory report.

Professors Kaufmann-Kohler (University of Geneva) and Felix Dasser (University of Zurich), both members of the group of experts that advised the SFDJ on the revision, presented the key amendments in the draft, which were then discussed in a debate with the audience.

The preliminary draft bill is now up for a public consultation period, ending on 31 May 2017, during which all interested parties may submit comments and suggestions on the proposed text. At the end of the consultation period, the SFDJ, taking stock of the comments received, will prepare a final draft bill which will then be submitted for review and vote in both houses of the Swiss Federal Parliament.

The program of the Geneva conference can be accessed via the dedicated page on the ASA website. The SFDJ’s preliminary draft bill on the revision of Chapter 12 PILA, as well as its explanatory report, can be downloaded (in French, German and Italian) from the SFDJ’s website.
